Scholarship, Conference, and Career Opportunities
Dear SPS Students and Faculty,
It was great seeing many of you at today’s fall picnic at Covington Woods Park!
Following this, I wanted to share some information with you on a few upcoming opportunities.
- The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program is now accepting applications until December 1, 2021. SMART offers scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students currently pursuing a degree in STEM. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the DoD after graduation. For more information, visit www.smartscholarship.org or email smart@smartscholarship.org.
- The Barry M Goldwater Scholarship program is accepting nominations between now and early January 2022. Goldwater scholarships support academic expenses of up to $7500 for two years for outstanding undergraduates in STEM fields. Nominees must have between 1 semester and 2 years remaining before graduation, a GPA of 3.0 or greater, U.S. citizenship, and must be nominated by their host college or university. WKU nominees must first pass an internal screening process and competition; WKU provides guidance on how to write a good application. Interested students should contact Dr. Matthew Nee, the WKU Campus Representative for the program.
- The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), to be held virtually in April 2022, has its early-bird abstract submission deadline on October 20, 2021. Early-bird abstracts are eligible for competition; regular abstracts are due November 19, 2021. For more details, please see the NCUR website.
- The Ogden College / STEM Career Fair will be held in person this year in the Engineering and Biological Sciences (EBS) building between 11am – 2pm on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Many employers will be on hand during the fair to provide information, answer questions, and recruit for open internships and full-time positions.
Thanks everyone for your attention. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
