REU Internship Opportunities
Dear Students,
Happy 2020! I hope you all enjoyed a good winter break and are getting ready to rejoin us here at WKU for the spring semester. Before that happens, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of a number of summer internship opportunities at different institutions funded by the National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. NSF-REU internships are a great way to learn about a particular research area that may interest you as well as to gain more general experience in research, both of which can be invaluable in helping you to decide on a future career path, including graduate school preparation. REU programs typically pay around $5000 (depending on location) for a 10-week summer internship at a university or research institute, plus expenses get to and from that location as well as a professional conference to present results of the work. Many applications are due starting the end of January, so if you’re interested, you should start looking at this now, before the new semester begin! As a brief sample, here are a few REU announcements that have crossed my desk recently:
- University of Louisville (Nanomanufacturing)
- Northern Arizona University (Astronomy)
- University of Illinois-Urbana (Physics)
- Cornell University (Astronomy)
- Vanderbilt University (Physics)
- University of Hawaii (Astronomy)
There are many more, however! Complete lists of all REU programs by subject can be found here:
