SIGNUP for 2011 Sigma Pi Sigma Banquet by 04-27
On Friday, April 29, 2011 at 6:00 PM the WKU Chapter of the Society of Physics Students will host its 51st annual Sigma Pi Sigma Banquet and Induction Ceremony. This year’s banquet will be held at the Cambridge Market and Cafe located at 830 Fairview Avenue.
The banquet is open to all physics majors and faculty in the department. Students who are members of SPS may come to the banquet free of charge. Faculty and guests of students are asked to pay a nominal $10 fee for their meal, prior to the event. (We would like to make this event free for all who would like to attend but the SPS budget cannot afford it. The actual cost per meal is actually about $20 per person so the SPS is still subsidizing all non-SPS members at a rate of 50%.)
We have a sign up list in the physics office, TCCW 246. If you would like to attend the banquet please add your name to this list and the names of any guest that will accompany you. If you cannot make it in to the office then please call Sharon at 5-4357 to RSVP. Please pay Sharon if you are not a SPS student member or if you plan to bring any guests. Please sign up by 3:00 PM Wednesday April 27 since we must provide a reasonable attendance number to the caterer.
Sigma Pi Sigma is national honor society sponsored by the American Institute of Physics that recognizes students who have excelled in physics. At WKU students are invited to join Sigma Pi Sigma if they have met the following requirements:
- completed the following core physics courses (PHYS 180/181, 255/256, 265/266, 301, 302, 321, 350),
- obtained at least a 3.00/4.00 overall GPA, and
- obtained at least a 3.30/4.00 GPA in all physics courses.
This year we will be inducting the following students into Sigma Pi Sigma: Kyle Curry, Suzanne Sadler, and Jon Wilson. Please congratulate these students on their accomplishment when you see them. The framed honor certificates that these students will receive are on display in the glass case between the office and SPS room.
We will also recognize other accomplishments of students at the banquet and will have a presentation by SPS students on the activities of WKU SPS this past year.
Please make plans to join us for this special occasion !!
Regards,
Doug Harper
WKU SPS Adviser
PS… I am often asked about dress for the banquet. Appropriate choices range from informal attire to business casual.
