2007 Sigma Pi Sigma Banquet
The 2007 Sigma Pi Sigma Banquet was held on April 27, 2007 at Cambridge Market and Cafe.
Jason Carson, a Junior from Grayson, KY, and Sarah McMurray, a senior from Summitville, IN, were inducted as the 260th and 261st members of the WKU Chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma
Departmental Award Winners
Dr. Michael Carini presented plaques and checks for $100 to the recipients of the 2007 Department of Physics and Astronomy awards. Sarah McMurray (left) received the George V. Page award for Outstanding Scholarship in Physics and Astronomy. This award is granted to the graduating senior physics major with the highest academic standing. Ian Rice (right) received the Randall Harper Award for Outstanding Research in Physics and Astronomy. This award is granted to the student who submits the best one-page summary of his/her research activities to the awards committee. Also, the Douglas Humphrey Award for Outstanding Service in Physics and Astronomy was granted to Jeremy Board who was not able to attend the banquet.
Officers
The officers for 2006-07 were Jason Carson (treasurer), Ian Rice (vice-president), Alison Rohde (president), and Jeremy Board (secretary). New officers for the 2007-08 academic year are Jason Musser (president), Eric Houchens (vice president), Chris McGrath (secretary), and Selva Calderon (treasurer).
Presentation
Professor Roger Scott of the WKU Department of Physics and Astronomy gave a presentation honoring the life and work of Dr. Richard Hackney, a long-time member of the department, who passed away in 2007.
