Stellar data

These data files are drawn from the same random ensemble. The shorter files are simply truncated versions of it. 20 stars is enough for reasonable results, but you are welcome to do more! You can also draw randomly from a larger list if you are having trouble interpolating some table entries.

References

These are primarily useful for tables of MV absolute magnitude and B-V intrinsic color index for different spectral types (i.e., spectral class + luminosity class combination). The Bradt and Mihalas tables were used in the Kurucz lab, but the Lang tables are a bit more detailed, requiring somewhat less interpolation.

Although some B-V colors are included in the Lang MV tables, they are often mixed with others like U-B or R-I, so it's better to refer to Lang's separate B-V tables.

In the Lang B-V tables, use "Population I" (not Zero-Age Main Sequence), and be sure to avoid U-B colors.
