Abstract

Dr. Andrea George has used her physics degree from WKU as a bedrock foundation for her 25 year career in environmental and energy management and sustainability. After WKU, Dr. George continued her studies at Vanderbilt University where she was awarded a PhD in environmental engineering, received her Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Project Management Professional certifications. She then spent 5 years working for the Department of Energy on radioactive waste remediation of sites contaminated during World War II and went on to spend 20 years as staff improving Vanderbilt University’s energy, environmental, safety and carbon footprint. Dr. George will elaborate on how physics has been her springboard for a successful and varied career and will also examine the links between physics and sustainability science as well as systems thinking.
